NY Mahjong

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know how to play?

No. Event listings will identify whether an event welcomes beginners, provides instruction, or is intended for experienced players.

How are tables organized?

American Mahjong is commonly played with four players. Registration information helps the host balance tables by experience and honor tablemate requests when possible.

Can I register with friends?

Yes. Each participant submits a separate registration and lists requested tablemates. Seating requests will be accommodated when possible but are not guaranteed.

When is my place confirmed?

Submitting a registration creates a pending place. A seat is confirmed only after payment is matched and eligibility is confirmed.

What happens when an event is full?

New registrations are placed on the waitlist in the order received. When a seat becomes available, Theresa manually promotes a participant and contacts that person with next steps.

What should I bring?

Each event listing will state whether Mahjong sets and current cards are supplied. When details are not listed, contact the club before arriving.

Are photographs public?

Published event albums are public. Participants may select “Please do not photograph me” during registration or notify Theresa at the event. NY Mahjong will make reasonable efforts to honor opt-out requests and will review removal requests sent to the club.
